Spidacares Surprises Bridgeport Students with Graduation Gift of Shoes
On June 16, Donovan Mitchell had a special surprise for the students graduating from the charter school, Classical Studies Magnet Academy, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. In recognition of their hard work and accomplishments, each graduate received two pairs of shoes from Donovan and his Spidacares foundation.
"Supporting and celebrating education is very important, and that is why Donovan formed Spidacares," noted his mother Nicole, who attended the ceremony to give out the shoes along with his sister Jordan. "Don wants to inspire our young students to keep moving forward in spite of the obstacles that are in their way. That is the message of his signature shoe—the DON Issue 1—which stands for Determination Over Negativity."
As teachers cheered, each student eagerly stepped out of their car to receive their diploma and smile for a graduation photo. Students were then congratulated by Nicole and received the boxes containing Donovan's signature Adidas shoes. The joyful atmosphere was a powerful reminder that positive actions—both big and small—in support of education play an important role in helping students in Bridgeport and across the country to pursue their goals, to rise above negativity, and to know they are valued.
