Donovan Mitchell Basketball Camp Donates Proceeds

In addition to inspiring young people to grow as basketball players, the 2021 Donovan Mitchell Basketball Camp had another important focus: helping to end homelessness. All proceeds from the camp supported “Welcome Home by SPIDACARES”—a program created in collaboration with Inspirica to help break the cycle of homelessness by providing home essentials—including all-new bedroom furniture, bedding, and kitchen and bathroom basics—to families who are moving from Inspirica’s emergency shelters into their own permanent homes.

SPIDACARES, the foundation established by Donovan Mitchell and his family, is committed to giving back to families in need and deeply understands the importance of home as a source of safety and stability. “It is so important to respect and support those who have overcome adversity and are trying to build a better life for their family,” said Nicole Mitchell, Donovan’s mother and senior business administrator of SPIDACARES. “Housing is so much more than shelter; it is a source of safety and a foundation for success.”

“Every chance I get, I want to make sure that I’m able to give back to my community,” said Donovan Mitchell. “We want to continue to try and break the cycle of homelessness and to find ways to give these families a jump-start as they transition from the shelters to their permanent homes. It’s near and dear to my heart being able to give back and show people that people are here to help and there is hope.”

As the families of the campers gathered to enjoy the games on the final day of camp, Donovan, along with Nicole and his sister Jordan, presented Inpirica’s CEO Denise Durham Williams with a check for $45,000. Donovan also recognized and thanked the families of the campers whose participation made this important gift possible.

“We are so thankful to Donovan Mitchell and his family,” said Denise Durham Williams. “SPIDACARE’s generosity allows these families leaving temporary housing to begin the next journey in their lives without the worries of purchasing much-needed items for themselves and their children. This extraordinary contribution will make a significant difference in the lives of those we serve.
